What This Programme Achieves

Malaysian universities produce exceptional research talent. What they often lack is a structured method to channel that talent into research agendas that are both academically rigorous and commercially relevant. U1 installs this method — giving academics and researchers the tools to generate high-impact ideas systematically, rather than relying on serendipity or supervisor guidance alone.

Course Objectives

01

Apply structured ideation frameworks to generate a portfolio of high-impact, fundable research ideas aligned to national and industry priorities.

02

Assess research ideas against commercial viability, societal impact, and fundability criteria before committing research resources.

03

Build a disciplined research planning approach that connects innovation systematically to real-world application and measurable outcomes.

What Happens Each Day

DAY 1

Research Landscape Mapping & Opportunity Identification

Map current research activities against industry gaps, national priorities, and funding landscapes. Identify high-leverage research directions using structured opportunity analysis and gap mapping.

DAY 2

Structured Research Ideation & High-Impact Idea Generation

Apply AIC's structured ideation methodology to generate a portfolio of research ideas. Learn to frame ideas for maximum impact, fundability, and academic distinction — not just novelty.

DAY 3

Idea Validation, Prioritisation & Research Planning

Validate your best research ideas against viability criteria. Build structured research plans with clear scopes, intended outputs, and funding strategies aligned to available grant programmes.

Expected Outcomes

01

A validated portfolio of high-impact research ideas aligned to funding priorities, industry needs, and national agendas.

02

A structured research planning methodology applicable to all future grant applications and research project proposals.

03

Measurably improved alignment between research outputs and the real-world application requirements that funders and industry demand.
